The 100 Day Reality Challenge

Help with Finding your Animal Guides (I will draw your cards for you)

Hello, I have offered to help those who want to find their animal guides.  I have always used The "Medicine Cards" created by Jamie Sams and David Carson.  In fact, I've worked with them for 23 years.  I have the original deck (the newer deck has 9 additional animals).  If you would like me to pull your cards I will do so.  There are 9 totems, however, I will only be pulling **7 of your cards (see explanation below).

East:

The animal in the East guides you to your greatest spiritual
challenges and guards your path to illumination.

South:
The animal in the South protects the child within and reminds
you when to be humble and when to trust, so that innocence will
be balanced in your personality.

West:
The animal in the West leads you to your personal truth and
inner answers. It also shows you the path to your goals.

North:
The North animal gives wise councel and reminds you when to
speak and when to listen. It also reminds you to be grateful
for every blessing every day.

Above:
The Above animal teaches you how to honor the Great Star Nation,
and reminds you that you came from the stars and to the stars
you will return. This animal is also the guardian of the
Dreamtime - for your personal access to the other dimensions.

Below:
The Below animal teaches you about the inner Earth, and
how to stay grounded and on the path.

Within:
The Within animal teaches you how to find your heart's joy and
how to be faithful to your personal truths. It is also the
protector of your sacred space, the place that is yours alone
and is never shared except by invitation.

Right Side:
This animal protects your male side and teaches you that, no
matter where you turn, it will be your Father-protector within.
This animal also carries your courage and warrior spirit.

Left Side:
This animal is the protector of your female side and teaches
you that you must learn to receive abundance as well as to
nurture yourself and others. The left-side animal is also your
teacher about relationships and mothering.

Special Notation:
The Right Side animal and the Left Side animal are always with you.

ALL of us carry male AND female essences within us, and the
two related animal spirits are with you at all times.
Not all people, but some people already know who these
animals are, or who at least one of them is. During the revealing
ceremony explained above, special consideration is given concerning
these particular two animal totems. When it is time for animals of
these Directions to be revealed, you may simply state aloud who they
are, should you already, and without a doubt, know which animal
it is for which Direction. It is highly unwise and extremely
disrespectful to proceed with a "ceremonial" revealing if you already
know. If your feelings, truly, are not that strong about it,
then the wise thing to do is to put your trust into the ceremony.

*Also understand that sometimes animals that are not among those of your special totems, most certainly will bring messages to you
from time-to-time. When any animal presents itself to you in
some way that stands out in your mind, whether in a dream or while
you are awake, study its Medicine. It has a message for you!

**PLEASE NOTE I will not be drawing a card for the animal that walks to your RIGHT and to your LEFT.  I want you to do some thinking about this.  Is there an animal that seems to have been with you your entire life?  An animal you have always been drawn to.  Look to those animals and see if they are the animals that walk to your right or left.  If you cannot seem to figure this one out, then I will help you with drawing these 2 additional cards.

Also I am using: The Medicine Cards Written by Jamie Sams and David Carlson, Published by Bear & Company Publishers.

Marina Kennedy

Hi Marina, please look at the direction meaning above. I've pulled your cards and they are listed below. Try to really study these animals. Look at pictures of them, read about them, meditate on them, draw them, maybe even act out their movements. THis is how you will really get to know your animals. You may also find that you will now begin to notice them more and more. Not just out side, but you will see them on TV, in books, people will mention them etc... I am giving a brief explanation of their medicine... And as with everything in this life, take what rings true in your heart and keep it, leave the rest to the wind.

East- Opossum Opossum is the actor of the animal kingdom. He is able to let off an odor that lets it's predators think they are dead. Opossum has the ability to fight tooth and nail but why when you can fool your enemy into thinking otherwise? Many a warrior has used this tactic... the trick their enemy into thinking they are dead and once their guard is down the Opossum lets out it's war cry and swoops in. Victory is sweet when one uses both mental and physical strategy! Diversion is Opossums power!

South- Bear Bear has to do with introspection and the ability to go within. Bear is typically found on the west end of the medicine wheel as this is the direction of intuition and introspection. Bear helps us to go deep within and meditate on our inner most thoughts. Bear spends a great deal of her time in the dreamtime so pay close attention to your dreams as bears will bring you her medicine through your dreams. Bear can lead us to the council chamber where we can seek answers from our ancestors.

West- Mouse Mouse medicine is helping you to scrutinize (scrutiny). Look at yourself and others carefully. The message is to see what is right before your eves and to take action accordingly. The chiefs tell us that without Mouse there would be no systemization of knowledge. Mouse ended Renaissance Man and harkened the age of specialization. Mouse knew from the very beginning that "there is always more to learn". One can always delve deeper and deeper and deeper.

If your personal medicine is Mouse, you may be fearful of life but very well organized, with a compartment for everything. You should try to see a larger picture than the one staring you in the face. Develop largesse of spirit. Try to become aware of the Great Dance of Life. Realize that even though you may be sitting in Los Angeles, there is also a New York, a moon, a solar system, a galaxy, and an infinite universe. Jump high, little friend. You win glimpse the Sacred Mountain.

North- Grouse The spiral is a symbol of birth and rebirth the ribbed tunnel of eternal return. The sacred spiral is also a symbol is also a symbol of personal power, personal vision and enlightenment. If you have grouse in your medicine, undertake a meditation on the various qualities of movement within your world. Ceased all external movement in order to recognize your inner life, it’s an invitation to dance!

Above- Ant Ant is a mighty creature, Ant's strength and patience is amazing. Ant moves the sands of time one gran at a time:) Ant’s medicine is the strategy of patience, a builder, aggressive, has stamina, scrutinize, and give away. Ants work together in a group, self sacrifice is part of ants, active community mind people, and planners, content to see the dream built a little at a time and know the sweet victory of reward. Ant will teach you to trust and have patience in lifes situations. Ants are working for the good of the people and are helping you to do the same!

Below- Weasel Weasel has an incredible amount of energy and stealth, yet it is a difficult power totem to have. Weasel ears hear whatever is said, weasel eyes see below the surface of a situation to know the many ramification of an event; this too is a rare gift. Weasel energy never fails to give accurate accounts. Weasel's power of observation is very keen, you may even look guilty sometimes because you know what a powerful ally may have in their arsenal;) People try to size you up but they soon learn that your intelligence is greater than theirs. Weasel will tell you the hidden power behind anything as long as you work with him properly.

Within- Owl Owl Medicine is symbolically associated with clairvoyance, astral projection, and magic. Owl is called Night Eagle on several medicine wheels used by Amerindian teachers. Traditionally, Owl sits in the East, the place of illumination and not of Deception. Since time immemorial, humanity has been afraid of the night, the dark, and the unseen—waiting fearfully for the first crack of morning light. Conversely, night is Owl's friend.

Owl is oftentimes the medicine of sorcerers and witches. If Owl is your medicine, you will be drawn to magical practices. If you have Owl medicine, these night birds will have a tendency to collect around you, even in the daytime, because they recognize a kinship with you. Is it any wonder that in many cultures Owl is a symbol for wisdom? This is because Owl can see that which others cannot, which is the essence of true wisdom. Where others are deceived, Owl sees and knows what is there.
Hi Amy, thank you so much, i am enchanted by all this. Can i pay you for doing this? I am so thankful and grateful. I did think of the animal on the right and left but i don't know if i am right or wrong. My feelings is the left wolf, the right deer?
Hi Marina,

Thank you for the offer to pay me, but there is no need. Just pass on a good deed and that will be payment enough for me;)

Wolf is the teacher of the animal kingdom and deer speaks to us of gentleness. If these things ring true for you, then I would say yes!
Thank you so much Amy, you are such a sweetheart, Blessings to you, Love marina
Stephanie Animal Totems 1-30-2010 (Full Wolf Moon)

Stephanie, In answer to how I find your totems, I go to your page and look it over. Try to get a vibe from it. For you I played your "Holiday" video and smiled the whole time. The cards were falling from my hands as I was shuffling (usually means that is the correct card). One card... Your Squirrel in the West I thought I had wrong, re-shuffled and out it popped again. So that is how I do it. If we were to do it in person I would have You shuffle the cards and if any fell out we would of course use it. But then I would fan them out and have you draw. This method, online, works just fine as long as I can get a sense of who you are.

I will say that because your page has color, photo's of you etc... Your shuffle was a bit more easy then Marina's. Marina I had to use more intuition because her page has just begun and is a page in the works. You are a person that has very easy energy to read. That is not good or bad, but for a Scorpio (which I am) we like being able to read someone's energy very easily! Also we have many of the same totems;)

So here we go!

East- Armadillo Armadillo wears it's protection on it's back and has the ability to roll up into a ball to pertect itself. What a wonderful gift armadillo has, the ability to se Boundaries! A good way to work with armadillio medicine is to draw a circle on a piece of paper and write within that paper experiences, peoople, etc.. that you are willing to experience and have in your life. Outside of the circle write things that your are willing to experience by invitation only, for example advice from a trusted advisor. Work with Armadillo to create what you are willing to do and what you are willing not to do. If there is a time in your life where you feel like people are treating you like a doormat or taking you for granted, call on armadillo to help you set your boundaries!

South- Skunk Skunk... Go ahead and laugh! But no other creature in the animal kingdom has acquired a Reputation such as skunks! With this reputation comes much power, the human nation gives this animal a great deal respect, wouldn't you agree? Unlike other animals, skunk does not threaten us with strength, it threatens us through our senses (sense of smell)! Skunk will teach you that by walking your talk and by respecting yourself, you will create a position of strength and honored reputation. There is no need to bully, aggravate, torment, or overpower other beings when your sense of "self" is intact. Skunk will help you to learn to assert, without ego, what you are. Respect follows. Your self−respectful attitude will repel those who are not of like mind, and yet will attract those who choose the same pathway. As the odor of Skunk attracts others of its kind, it repels those who will not respect its space. Skunk medicine people have the ability to attract others, and they are very charismatic. At the same time, the other side of their natural power is to repel those who seek to take energy from them without recycling the gifts they receive from you.

Skunk medicine people also know how to use the energy flows that will attract a lover. Some people call this sexual magic, as it is akin to the musk scent that animals excrete to attract a mate. It can be dangerous to leak sexual energy if you are not looking for a mate. It puts you into a games condition that may feed your ego but not how others feel about you. If you are attracting others who have an interest in you, you are in a sense saying, "I'm available." This can cause hard feelings when the truth comes out. It also leaks energy that you could have used in a more constructive way.

In Skunk medicine, it is good to learn how to handle energy flows. Modern psychologists call this body language. In tribal teachings, this is your personal medicine which you are showing to others. Use your medicine well, and know that you are known by your reputation. How you use your energy will attract either honor or disgrace.

West- Squirrel Squirrel medicine offers wisdom about the power of Gathering what is necessary and true and letting go of what is not. The gathering power of Squirrel medicine is a great gift. It teaches you to gather and store your energy for times of need. It teaches you to reserve something for future use, whether it be a judgment, an opinion, a savings account, candles, or extra food. To put it in a nutshell, Squirrel is the Boy Scout of the animal kingdom--always prepared."

Squirrel teaches us to honor our future by readying ourselves for change. Squirrel can teach us to lighten out load if we have gathered too many 'things' that do not serve us. These 'things' can include thoughts, worries, pressures, stresses, or gadgets that have been broken for years."

The final gift of squirrel medicine, is in creating an "untroubled heart and mind" in which to place your gatherings. In other words, remember that anything you gather needs a safe place to rest until you need it. Squirrels are experts at finding safe places to store their goodies for the winter. Be conscious of not only what you gather (i.e. positive thoughts vs. self-destructive thoughts, etc.), but also the environment in which you store these things/thoughts (this environment is you!). Squirrel wisdom asks you to be open and loving toward what you gather, for the more you nurture what you're storing inside you, the more powerful and meaningful these things will become in the future when you need them.

North- Otter Otter, The medicine held by Otter is a set of lessons in female energy (Women Medicine). The Otter's hide is very often used to make medicine bags for powerful women because it represents balanced female energy. Otter is very caring of its young and will play for hours, performing all types of acrobatics. It lives on land, but always has its home near water. The elements of Earth and Water are the female elements. At home in both of these elements, Otter is the personification of femininity: long, sleek, and graceful, Otter is the true coquette of the animal world. Otter is always on the move and is very curious. Unlike other animals, Otter will not start a fight unless it is attacked first. This joyful little creature is adventuresome and assumes that all other creatures are friendly — until proven otherwise.

These character traits are the beauty of a balanced female side, the side of ourselves that creates a space for others to enter our lives without preconceptions or suspicions. Otter teaches us that balanced female energy is not jealous or catty. It is sisterhood, content to enjoy and share the good fortune of others. Anchored in the understanding that all accomplishments are worthwhile for the whole tribe, Otter people express joy for others.

Woman energy without games or control is a beautiful experience. It is the freeness of love without jealousy. It is the joy of loving other people's children and their accomplishments as much as you love your own.

Use Otter medicine to help you become the playful child and to simply allow things to unfold in your life. If you are beginning to have an addiction to worrying, call upon otter to help you release these troublesome thoughts. Otter also teaches the importance of not hanging onto material things that would bind you or become a burden. In looking at how you can learn from Otter's habits, you might look at the joyousness of the receptive side of your nature. Have you given yourself a gift recently? Have you received any messages in your meditations? Become Otter and move gently into the river of life. Flow with the waters of the Universe ... this is the way of balanced female−receptive energy. Honor it! In doing so, you will discover the power of woman!

Above- Raven Raven's medicine is Magic! She is the Great Mystery of the Void!

Black, to Native Americans, is a color of magical power, and only to be feared if misused. Raven symbolizes the void - the mystery of that which is not yet formed. Ravens are symbolic of the Black Hole in Space, which draws in all energy toward itself and releases it in new forms. The iridescent blue and green that can be seen in the glossy black feathers of the raven represents the constant change of forms and shapes that emerge from the vast blackness of the void. In Native American tradition, Raven is the guardian of both ceremonial magic and healing circles. She is also the patron of smoke signals.

Raven magic is a powerful medicine that can give you the courage to enter the darkness of the void, which is the home of all that is not yet in form. The void is called the Great Mystery. Great Mystery existed before all other things came into being. Great Spirit lives inside the void and emerged from the Great Mystery. Raven is the messenger of the void. When Raven is your totem, magic is in the air. Do not try to figure it out, you cannot. It is the power of the unknown at work. The deeper mystery, however, is how you will respond to the sparkling synchronicity of Ravens alchemy. Will you recognize it and use it to further enhance your growth? Can you accept it as a gift from the Great Spirit? Or will you limit the power of the great mystery by explaining it away?

If you have an intention, needed healing, thought or message call upon Raven as a courier to carry the intention. Raven is the patron of smoke signals or spirit messages represented by smoke. So if you want to send a message to the Blue Road of spirit, in order to contact the Ancients, call Raven.

Remember, this Raven's magic moment came from the void of darkness, and the challenge is to bring it to light. In doing so you will have honored the magician within.

*special note. If you do not use magick, please know that magick is the equivalent to prayer. When a witch performs a spell it is little more then a prayer to her gods/goddesses much like a Christian will pray to their God/Christ/Jesus. I also want to say this is one of my totems and I LOVE Raven's Medicine!

Below- Horse Horse ~ "Stealing horses is stealing Power" was a statement made frequently in historical Native America and a reference to the esteemed role which Horse played in the Native cultures. Horse is physical power and unearthly power. In shamanic practices throughout the world Horse enables shamans to fly through the air and reach heaven.

Humanity made a great leap forward when Horse was domesticated, a discovery akin to that of fire. Before Horse, humans were earthbound, heavy-laden, and slow creatures indeed. Once humans climbed on Horse's back they were as free and fleet as the wind. They could carry burdens for great distances with ease. Through their special relationship with Horse humans altered their self-concept beyond measure. Horse was the first animal medicine of civilization. Humanity owes an incalculable debt to Horse and to the new medicine it brought. It would be a long walk to see one's brother or sister if Horse had not welcomed the two-legged rider upon its back. Today we measure the capacity of engines with the term "horsepower," a reminder of the days when Horse was an honored and highly prized partner with humanity.

In understanding the power of Horse medicine, you may see how to strive for a balanced medicine shield. True power is wisdom found in remembering your total journey. Wisdom comes from remembering pathways you have walked in another person's moccasins. Compassion, caring, teaching, loving, and sharing your gifts, talents, and abilities are the gateways to power.

Within- Snake−Snake medicine speaks to us of TRANSMUTATION! The power of snake medicine is the power of creation, for it embodies sexuality, psychic energy, alchemy, reproduction, and ascension (or immortality). The transmutation of the life−death−rebirth cycle is exemplified by the shedding of Snake's skin. It is the energy of wholeness, cosmic consciousness, and the ability to experience anything willingly and without resistance. It is the knowledge that all things are equal in creation, and that those things which might be experienced as poison can be eaten, ingested, integrated, and transmuted if one has the proper state of mind.

This medicine teaches you on a personal level that you are a Universal being. Through accepting all aspects of your life, you can bring about the transmutation of the fire medicine. This fire energy, when functioning on the material plane, creates passion, desire, procreation, and physical vitality. On the emotional plane, it becomes ambition, creation, resolution, and dreams. On the mental plane it becomes intellect, power, charisma, and leadership. When this Snake energy reaches the spiritual plane, it becomes wisdom, understanding, wholeness, and connection to the Great Spirit. If there is a need within you to transmute some thought, action, or desire so that wholeness may be achieved, call upon this Animal guide to aid you! This is heavy energy, but remember, this energy is no more than a change in consciousness... Become the enchantress and transmute the energy and accept the power of the fire!
Amazing...thank you! So much of this was right on...my father is Camanchee though I have never met him...my mother has no indian in her which REALLY explains why I am so pale haha! I am so drawn to this kind of stuff...I guess it's just in my blood!
Hi Amy!
I would love to know what my animal totems are. For my left and right animals, I have always been drawn to horses, and cats and dogs, however, cats tend to follow me around, so I'm guessing horse for my right side and cat for my left side?
Thank you x

Ghislaine Beauce
Hey Kittens, I'm running behind, but I promise I WILL do them soon!

xo
A
This is great, I have always felt like my totem was some kind of bird. I would really like to find out what my totem is.
I would love to have you draw cards for me. :)
As I put one end to a chapter in my life, it will free me up to spend more time in this group and helping everyone who has requested to find their animal totems.

In the meanwhile. What animals have been appearing in your life as of late. Spring is here in many places so the animals are coming out in full force. One friend who lives in the city witnessed Skunk playing in her yard. Yes, playing and in her front yard. Skunk speaks of Reputation and Respect. She teaches us to walk our talk and to respect ourselves;)
can you help me find mine
I feel connected to some animals but not sure if they are my spirt animals or just kindred souls in other ways
