Make Your Own Journal! cont.

Don't be afraid of the words "art work"! I'm talking about some very easy background and collage techniques plus some doodling. Your own handmade journal and art work can be a form of meditation... a focus... for your thoughts, feelings and desires. Some of these techniques can also be used to make a vision board.

Thanks for the Japanese term "kaizen". That is one of those things I wanted to look up someday and NOW might be the time! You have to be careful "improving" art. Some additions and changes are good but you have to know when to stop! Sometimes art can get too muddy and loose it's clarity of meaning. When you "improve" writing you can have several drafts you can backtrack to when a narrative isn't working. Nobody is the wiser!

Thank you for your kind comments. It's strange that I need to write all over my artwork! I have to admit, I am a writer first and an artist second. I took to art when I could no longer make a living using a keyboard all day So, writing 1-2 morning pages by hand, is really easy for me. words seem to flow out of me onto the page. I learned a new word today... 'kaizen' it is a Japanese word meaning improving the quality of something on a regular basis. That is how I see my art generally... I can do a little work, then the next day, I see how to evolve it a bit more, the next day a bit more...etc. So in art journals, I cant see the finished picture at all when I start, & have no idea how it will evolve...yet there is some insistence within me to do it..

So... to really jump ahead... what did it feel like Diana?! I find that I get lost in the art work... it is very therapeutic. It's more satisfying to me than slaving over 3 "Morning Pages" for TAW (The Artist Within book that some groups use). But like Morning Pages if you should visual journal everyday. It's easy to see mood changes and major events over time. You go back a few days... a year... and say to yourself, "OH, I remember that day!"

Sorry I didn't get back to you right away! (See my D3S1 blog post ;)) I did check out your journal writing pages. What we're going to be doing will blow your socks off! It's really two parts. Part 1 is making your own journal. My theory is that if you make it you will use it. Part 2 is dabbling in visual journaling. Google search for visual journaling images. Part 2 doesn't require that you make your own journal but The 100-Day Reality Challenge site is not an art focused site and I didn't want the two parts to get lost in the sea of groups. One of my own journal pages is one just one little sneak peek of what you can do in Part 2. (Note this is a page from a commercially made journal!)

Diana, that link is soooo inspiring!

Kindred Spirit - I just had an idea!- when you get your online course up and running I'd love to have a link from my website to your course (from my 'journal writing' pages). I also would like to link to some journal artists - I've been wanting to sell some 'special' journals on my website for a long time but never found any 'special' enough - now I think I have! But equally, it would be great for people to make their own - through your course. What do you think!?
