About Me:
I've never participated in an "official" 100-day challenge before, but I've done something similar in the "90 meetings in 90 days" of my recovery program. I have a hard time getting anything done without a deadline - if you're into Myers-Briggs personality types, I'm an INTP, and we're all about process, not necessarily results - or at least not results on a specific date!

Like other INTPs, I'm interested in a wide variety of things and have numerous hobbies, with my top two hobbies being birdwatching and gem collecting. I try to avoid losing all my money on gems by selling them after I've had a chance to hold them and look at them in the light and enjoy them in person; some of them I'm never going to sell, though. I feel like some of them *do* have some internal power, some properties beyond the physical. I've never explored that in detail, but perhaps I should take more active interest in it. Perhaps I'll add that to my goals!

I'm married to my best friend, who stuck with me through my addiction and is now falling back in love with me, the me he originally met 8 years ago. I'm coming to know the "real me" again too. We're starting over in a new house, and will soon welcome a kitten into our lives. I have to take much more responsibility for my companion animals than I previously have! I grew up around cats - my parents bred pedigreed Siamese - and really identify with them. They have some internal, ancient power about them too, an inner strength and self-possession that I could definitely learn from.

This is the second NING group I've ever even heard of, but it's also the 2nd in one week - I'm a member of a Tarot group, too. I haven't been as involved in Tarot as I used to be (my enthusiasms wax and wane), but I just inventoried all my decks and will probably start using it more often. The cards are all miniature works of art and are excellent meditative tools.

Higher power willing - and with the strength of community around me - I can improve my self-sufficiency and through it the other areas of my life. Thank you for this group and this opportunity!

About my picture: That's me at the grave of the poet John Keats at the Protestant Cemetery in Rome, attended by the cemetery cat.

Day 12, season 1 - ask larger, and have patience, and ye shall receive!

Posted on May 28, 2008 at 10:30pm 1 Comment

A day full of event and circumstance. Several important things happened; I'll save the most exciting for last.

Finally, I mean finally, paid a bill for a magazine subscription that I'd ignored even after it went to a collection agency (which is why my credit stays so bad) - I've had enough money all along, but I just don't pay bills even when I can a lot of the time. I'm religious about paying my student loan and one of my credit card bills is usually on time, but other than… Continue

Day 11, season 1 - ask small, and ye shall receive...

Posted on May 27, 2008 at 11:16am 0 Comments

...now I need a little more courage to start asking big!

My previous bus and warbler manifestation attempts haven't always worked the way I planned. For instance, "a bus will come soon" once resulted in a bus coming almost instantly, but it wasn't in service, and I had to wait 15 minutes for an in-service one. Yesterday, "I'll see a warbler and the Route 57 bus will come quickly" was met by my hearing a warbler, trying to spot it in a nearby tree, and then its flying away - so… Continue

Day 8, season 1 - first week reflections

Posted on May 25, 2008 at 5:38pm 0 Comments

A week and a day since I started working on this. I would've written yesterday, but I was totally sucked into a game of Civilization 4 on my computer, and did almost nothing else all day but occasionally eat when my husband reminded me. My Tarot card for the day was the 4 of Swords, which usually means "take a rest, relax, you deserve it" - but I didn't feel like I particularly needed a rest, it being the start of a 3-day weekend and my not having worked all that hard at work recently. I think… Continue

Day 7, season 1 - God grant me the serenity...

Posted on May 23, 2008 at 5:52pm 0 Comments

...to meditate, basically, I've been trying it and my brain just keeps jumping up and running around without me. I know it takes time to get your mind into the meditative groove, but dangit, I want it noowwww! - she said, with no serenity whatsoever. Patience takes patience, after all.

I've been doing relaxation exercises before meditation attempts, and those are definitely working; I feel so much better afterwards, and come to think of it I've felt a bit more physically relaxed and… Continue

Day 5, season 1 - no, really, I CAN'T see too many eagles!

Posted on May 21, 2008 at 6:20pm 2 Comments

When Aleta read my Day 1 blog post about birdwatching and seeing two bald eagles - an adult and a juvenile together, then the adult alone two more times - she suggested I read about eagle magic in "Animal Speak" by Ted Andrews. I bought the book on Amazon and it arrived today, and after work I went to a cafe and had some tea while reading the first few chapters. The book describes some methods you can use to find your animal totem, and there's a specific set of meditative images it recommends.… Continue

Hi, Abigail-
Thanks for your suggestions theo other day on posting images. i still haven't gotten the hang of it but my web a=savvy daughter is in town right now and i will bite the bullet and ask for help. Love the post about warblers--birding is something I am very interested in pursuing. I've had a feeder for years, but mostly feed various sparrows, grackles, a pair of blue jays and, once this winter, a hawk (oops).
Be well.

Look what I just found about butterflies! Had to send it to you! And here is the section about imaginal cell:

According to evolution biologist Elisabet Sahtouris (Sa-TOR-iss), when a caterpillar reaches a certain point in its own evolution, it becomes over-consumptive, a voracious eater and it eats everything in sight. It eats hundreds of times its own weight. One caterpillar can devour all the leaves from a small tree.

At that same time, inside the molecular structure of the caterpillar, something called the “imaginal cells” become active. While all this over-consumption is going on, those imaginal cells wake up, and they look for each other inside of the caterpillar’s body. When enough of them connect (they don’t need to be in the majority) they become the genetic directors of the future of the caterpillar. At that point the other cells begin to putrefy and become what’s called the nutritive soup—out of which the imaginal cells create the absolute unpredictable miracle of the butterfly.

*More on imaginal cells
What’s possible is that we're the imaginal cells on the planet right now.
It could be that these little groupings here in this room is you being drawn to the other imaginal cells near you.

Thank-you so much for the butterfly rearing details. I love the idea of nurturing something so delicate. I'm going to do it with my, loves all nature kid. Can you start the process anytime during the spring and summer?
