As part of my quest to be a more charitable, loving and caring person, I decided to do at least one activity per month for a charitable organisation.
Today I worked on a house for Habitat for Humanity. I drove nearly 2 hours, put in a full working day, hammering, helping to put the framing up and putting up the eaves and really working hard and drove back home. I am so dog tired now, its not even 7pm and I am ready for bed. I have a bruised thumb from a misguided hammer blow and a blister on my hammer hand.......but you know, I feel so damn good. It is really going to help a family who really deserve it and are lovely people with hard times. I met the lady today who will be getting the house and she is lovely and just so appreciative of the volunteers who are helping. When she said how she could thank me, I sad, just pay it forward....One day there will be someone who you can help, do it lovingly without thought of what they can do for you, tell them to pay it forward too, and the chain will never be broken.
Next weekend I swim in a swimathon for the Rainbow club. Its an organisation that provides swimming lessons for very special needs kids. The lessons they provide are 1 on 1, with swimming teachers with huge amounts of patience. I think i will be swimming 4 hours over a 24 hour period at least so that is a pretty strong commitment too.
The following week I give a talk to a service club so that we can get donations for rainbow club. I hate public speaking but apparently I do it pretty well. It all helps.
So that is 3 charitable things for this month, Just as well, as I as yet havent got anything organised for May......but who knows, something may just spring up.
Sometimes in order to feel good about you, you have to do good.
