Today is Day 4. On Day Two, I met with a woman who is the Director of the Noisette Foundation. We had a program (Noisette & SCRI) called the Lowcountry Civic Justice Corp (LCJC). This program lost its funding last fall, much to the dismay of the Warden of the local pre-release center, SCRI & a whole host of others:(
This program utilized currently incarcerated men to rehab & build from scratch homes in Charleston & surrounding area using "green" technologies 4 days a week and on the 5th day, the guys had instruction on obtaining their GED's, financial literacy, interpersonal relationships & much to much to list here. Needless to say, it was a phenomenal program. We graduated 6 classes of men, each class having 15 to 16 guys. The recidivism rate was practically ZERO, another phenomenal thing!
Definition of Recidivism - The behavior of a repeat or habitual criminal. A measurement of the rate at which offenders commit other crimes, either by arrest or conviction baselines, after being released from incarceration.
The meeting with Catherine was to see if I wanted to become employed by them once they started the program back up again. The Corporation of National Service (Americorp) http://www.nationalservice.gov/ is putting funding up for this and as always... the government is effing it all up. I realized I didn't want to be employed with ANYTHING having to do with the stinking government. It is the Kiss of Death for any decent program because they just have to meddle!!!! However, the connect to Catherine was awesome. She & I have a like mind & spirit & we definitely will be working together in the future.
We have so much to teach other & share with each other. day Two was a fabulous day of networking!
I went to the Market downtown & spoke with a couple of people I hadn't seen in months & months. When I spoke of what I am doing, I was told, "Count Me In!" They want to join me! Isn't that awesome?
Now all I need is a paying gig so I can move out of where I am, be close to downtown again & be in my own spot, taking care of my own business. Being unemployed & living at the mercy of others really really sucks & I am so freaking over it!!!! Come on Universe...Jeanne needs a great paying job! And she needs it YESTERDAY!
