Iles School is an urban, inner city school with 21 different nationalities represented in our student population. One of the best things about our school is our service learning projects. We used to be an O Ambassador School. Now... we are a Free the Children Youth In Action School. This means Iles students support the United Nations Millennium Development Goals for children.
With Laurel Elementary, our partner school in Pennsylvania, we have built four classrooms, a library and two wells. Our students are truly becoming compassionate, active global citizens.
The Eighth Annual Writer's Conference is on Friday, April 29, 2011 in Springfield, Illinois, just 3 short hours from Harpo Studios! Our theme this year is
Youth in Action: International Idealists
This year's event is a celebration of our Free the Children Me to We service learning projects, including the premiere of our first professionally published book, "The Magic Aglet: A Tale of Courage, Hope and Shoelaces". This student-authored book was written at the conference last year by Iles students, and is being published by The Trevor Romain Company. All proceeds from the sale of this book go to our Free the Children projects in East Asia.
Who knows what we can do this year?
The students at my school know I am a HUGE Oprah fan. Please come visit our school and inspire our students! I know you will find them to be receptive, awesome human beings. That would be a dream come true for me.
What a great way to bring closure on the “O Ambassador” project! I know your viewers would be inspired. (and you don't have to cook over an open fire!!) Maybe you can bring Louise Hay,and yoko, too!!
Oprah, you have always said that giving is so much more fun than receiving, and we believed you. You were right.
